Frequently Asked Questions

What is Aeon's Gate? Aeon's Gate is a site designed to be a nexus - a central point connecting several different websites. At the moment, these sites have not been fully realized. The current incarnation of Aeon's Gate is an intermediate step, a work in progress that will continue to evolve as I develop the sections over time.

Who is Kyran Jaye? Kyran Jaye is the caretaker of Aeon's Gate. In one sense, she is a character that is an integral part of the project, serving as the maintainer of the nexus point. In another sense, she is the alter ego of the mundane webmistress, who uses the name in other forums around the 'net.

Why worlds/tales/sidetracks? As Aeon's Gate is a nexus, it connects to a variety of worlds. The tales are stories from these worlds, and the sidetracks are short diversions. The worlds connected to the Gate are the worlds in which I write; some have one or two stories in them at the moment, others have well-developed histories and timelines, with many opportunities for creative work. As the worlds develop, so will their accompanying sites.

Are the stories in these worlds going to be published? If I ever finish them, that's the intent.

Why is May Your Reach... an infodump? (An infodump is a chunk of exposition used by a writer to convey information, often clunky and unnecessary) May Your Reach... was originally written as a project for my astronomy class in college. I had to show my understanding of the subject matter covered during the course. It's clunky, but I like the characters, so I put it up. With the caveat.

What’s with this Display Removed for Conservation thing? It's a reference to events in a book of which I'm fond - The Adept, by Katherine Kurtz and Deborah Turner Harris: a thief steals a piece from a museum, replacing it with a sign that says "Display Removed for Conservation," and no one notices it's missing until much later. I use it as a tongue-in-cheek reference to a few friends who read the book, and also because in this case, the sections are in fact undergoing "conservation" efforts as I revamp the site.

What’s that design in the image/on the book cover? Technically, it's just a design. A long way back, it was a photo-manipulation of the trees lining a forest trail; it's gone a bit far afield since then. It is a personal design, though, so please don't copy.

What font is that in the header images? It's called Xmasterpiece, and I got it at the Font Garden.

Is everything on this site original? Yes. I wrote the stories, I created the worlds (in one case, with a friend), I designed the layout and the images, and I developed the code.
